What does it mean to be a man today? For me, a man is a person who is not afraid to change and to put himself out there, who looks ahead and rediscovers himself more aware every day, who sets his sights on an ever fuller, clearer and deeper understanding of the world, of himself and, above all, of his path. He is a person like me, simply a human being, who at 50 feels more than ever that he is the architect of his own life. A person who wants to be better today than he was yesterday. A man who knows that change is the key and that the obstacle is the path. Stepping out of our comfort zone and challenging ourselves, changing, indeed better, evolving into the best version of ourselves. The obstacles we will find on our path are the trials we will have to overcome for a new vision, a new mind and a new body.
In this what I believe to be a wonderful age, when we finally begin to reap the benefits of what we have built, we face one of the most important challenges of our existence: slow, inevitable, decay. We must admit, we no longer have the energy of when we were young, we no longer have that freshness, the ability to concentrate, or even the libido and sexual exuberance of our twenties. But the thing that scares us most at this stage of our lives is knowing that this decline in vitality is in progression. What will I be like tomorrow? Next month? Five years from now? Will I still be able to be the man I have always been? I, too, asked myself these questions and, more importantly, decided that I would not accept answers already given, but that I would rewrite them, with my own will and beyond. Changing my way of being, changing my way of thinking and being in the world. I am about to make a strong statement: I think growing old is a disease, am I wrong? Maybe, but what I am sure of is that I want to slow down the symptoms for as long as possible because my goal is to add as many years of well-being to my life as possible. Today, longevity studies are the new frontier, and huge investments are being made to achieve it. In the coming decades there will be a scientific and technological breakthrough that will enable us to live longer and live better, much better. This is a unique opportunity for our generation and we must seize it now, to get to that moment in the best shape possible, mentally, physically and spiritually. To reach this goal we need to take the first step now, driven by motivation and guided by discipline, knowing that what will change us is the path we will have taken, not the finish line: that, in fact, is the last of the gifts we will receive if we decide to push our limits, change our attitude and trust our potential.
Let us take that first step, let us begin to love ourselves more. Let's do it, yes, because we owe it to ourselves, to the men we are, to the people who share our lives with us. Let us compare, let us inform, let us believe. Let's do it. Together.
