THEANINE

TAKE HER TO SLEEP WITH YOU

Let's continue our journey to discover those natural ingredients that are the most valuable allies in the fight against stress and, consequently, aging and that are a valuable and effective support for maintaining an active and dynamic lifestyle.

Friend of our nights, cozy as a lullaby, here is Theanine, also known as L-Theanine, a particular type of natural amino acid that we find mainly in tea, particularly green tea (such as the famous matcha tea, but also in black tea). In addition to tea, just for knowledge, I would remind you that theanine is also found in some plants of the genus Camellia and in some mushrooms of the species Boletus badius (Xerocomus badius).

Today we attribute several faculties to theanine such as:

  • relaxing, sedative and anxiolytic properties;
  • properties adjuvant to cancer chemotherapy;
  • hypotensive properties, observed, however, only on experimental models;
  • neuroprotective properties;
  • immunomodulatory properties.

Of the properties we have seen, the one we are most interested in is the anxiolytic, relaxing, and anti-stress properties, which seem to derive from the ability of theanine to function as a substrate for the synthesis of GABA, also known as gamma-aminobutyric acid, an inhibitory-acting neurotransmitter capable of promoting feelings of relaxation and well-being.

This makes theanine have relaxing properties, but without causing drowsiness or altering the attention and concentration abilities of those who take it. This is why it is a very valuable ally in our fight against stress, mental and physical, and anxiety, as well as an aid in maintaining proper concentration and focus. Truly a great ally for our well-being and goal achievement.

It seems, but it is still the subject of studies, that among its effects is also promoting the release of serotonin and dopamine. In addition, its intake is proposed in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and in order to make some cancer drugs more effective. At present, however, evidence of the usefulness of theanine intake for these purposes is still considered insufficient.

Thus, theanine intake has the function of:

  • promote relaxation, but without impairing attention and concentration;
  • improve the quality of sleep;
  • balance the stimulating effects of other substances possibly contained in some supplements, such as caffeine;
  • aid attention and concentration.
